Quiet Luxury: Simplicity or Subtle Status Symbol?
Quiet luxury celebrates elegance without excess—but is it true confidence or just another trend hiding in minimalism?
A viral band known as The Velvet Sundown has ignited debate after accumulating over 850,000 monthly listeners on Spotify—despite zero known interviews, no live appearances, and little online presence. While the band denies using artificial intelligence (AI), multiple conflicting reports suggest otherwise.
Controversy erupted when a supposed spokesperson admitted the music was created using an AI tool named Suno—only for the individual to later confess he was part of a deliberate hoax. The band has since disavowed any connection to the man, claiming both his identity and a related X (formerly Twitter) account were fake. Experts say this bizarre situation highlights growing public confusion over AI's role in content creation. Professor Gina Neff of the University of Cambridge warned, “Our grip on reality is becoming fragile… the story fuels fears of losing control over AI.”
Deezer’s AI detection tools reportedly flagged the band’s music as “100% AI generated,” yet Spotify has remained silent. Meanwhile, musicians and industry leaders are calling for stronger legal protections, arguing that AI-generated content is undermining creative rights. Ed Newton-Rex of Fairly Trained called it “theft dressed up as competition,” echoing broader concerns in a creative industry already battling AI’s disruptive influence.
