Travis Kelce Proposed to Taylor Swift Two Weeks Ago, Says His Dad

Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce are officially engaged, announcing the news on Instagram Tuesday with photos from a romantic garden proposal. Kelce’s father, Ed Kelce, revealed in an interview with News 5’s John Kosich that the proposal actually took place about two weeks ago at Travis’ home, ahead of a dinner outing.

“He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine’ … and that’s when he asked her,” Ed shared. “It was beautiful.”

According to Ed, the couple immediately FaceTimed both families to share the news. “As soon as I saw the call, I knew what they were going to say,” he said, adding that he and Travis’ mother later joined the pair for a home-cooked dinner made by Swift. Swift, 35, showed off her dazzling engagement ring – a massive Old Mine Brilliant Cut diamond designed with jeweler Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry – in a series of photos. She captioned the announcement: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”

For the proposal, Swift wore a $398 Ralph Lauren silk-blend striped dress paired with tan heels and gold jewelry, while Kelce opted for a navy collared shirt, off-white shorts and loafers. The couple’s engagement quickly drew congratulations from friends and teammates. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany shared their excitement online, while Gracie Hunt, daughter of Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, called it a “modern fairytale.”

Swift and Kelce, both 35, first went public with their relationship in 2023 after Kelce’s now-famous attempt to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number. The pair have since become one of the most high-profile celebrity couples in the world. Ed Kelce summed up the milestone simply: “They’re just two young people very much in love, cast in a spotlight they didn’t seek, but embraced by their success.”
