YouTube Creator Struggle
YouTube is more competitive than ever, but small creators can still grow with strategy, consistency, and niche content.
Amazon Prime Video has officially greenlit a feature film continuation of The Summer I Turned Pretty, confirming that the fan-favorite YA story will not end with its third and final season. The film will serve as the concluding chapter of Jenny Han’s beloved series, based on her bestselling novels. Han, who developed the story for television, is co-writing the screenplay alongside Sarah Kucserka. The announcement was made during the show’s Season 3 finale red carpet event in Paris, France.
“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” Han said in a statement. “I’m so grateful to Prime Video for supporting my vision and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”
While plot details are being kept under wraps, the film will continue the storylines explored across three seasons of the series, which has drawn a massive global audience. According to Amazon, Season 3’s debut reached 25 million viewers within its first week. Starring Lola Tung as Belly, the cast also features Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman, Rain Spencer, Jackie Chung, and Rachel Blanchard. The show has been praised for its blend of romance, friendship, and coming-of-age drama, with its central love triangle resonating strongly among audiences worldwide.
Courtenay Valenti, head of film at Amazon MGM Studios, and Vernon Sanders, head of television, praised the series’ impact: “The Summer I Turned Pretty has struck a chord with audiences everywhere, creating moments of joy, nostalgia, and connection that have made it a global sensation. We couldn’t be more excited to partner again with Jenny Han to bring fans an unforgettable next chapter.” The feature film will be produced by Amazon Studios and wiip, with Han and Kucserka serving as co-showrunners and executive producers.
