Britney Spears Sells Entire Music Catalog in Reported $200M Deal

Britney Spears has reportedly sold the rights to her entire music catalog to Primary Wave in what media outlets are calling a landmark deal. According to reports from TMZ, Rolling Stone, and other outlets, the agreement was finalized on December 30. While the exact financial terms have not been publicly disclosed, sources claim the deal is valued in the same range as Justin Bieber’s reported $200 million catalog sale in 2023.

The sale includes Spears’ most iconic hits from the late 1990s and 2000s, such as “…Baby One More Time,” “Oops!… I Did It Again,” “Toxic,” “Gimme More,” “Circus,” “Stronger,” “Lucky,” “I’m a Slave 4 U,” “Piece of Me,” and many more. With the acquisition, Primary Wave will now control Spears’ ownership share of these recordings and publishing rights. Primary Wave’s roster already includes legendary artists such as Whitney Houston, Bob Marley, Prince, Stevie Nicks, and Smokey Robinson. The company specializes in managing music publishing rights, earning revenue through streaming, album sales, licensing for films and commercials, and broadcast usage.

Spears, 44, joins a growing list of major artists who have sold their music catalogs in recent years, including Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Shakira, KISS, and Justin Bieber. The trend reflects the increasing value of music rights in the streaming era, where catalogs are viewed as stable, long-term investment assets. The singer has largely stepped back from the music industry in recent years. Her last full studio album, Glory, was released in 2016. In 2021, a U.S. court ended her 13-year conservatorship, which had granted her father control over her finances and personal affairs.

Neither Spears nor Primary Wave has issued an official public statement regarding the reported deal.
