Apple has officially launched preorders for its latest smartphone, the iPhone Air, which the company describes as its thinnest and lightest iPhone ever. Starting at $999, the device became available for preorder today at 8 a.m. ET, and it will be officially released on September 19. The iPhone Air is less than a quarter-inch thick but still offers high-end performance and features. It includes Apple’s new A19 Pro chip, support for Apple Intelligence (the company's AI system), enhanced camera systems, and a 27-hour battery life. Apple has marketed this model as a sleek, powerful option for users who want top-tier specs in a lighter and slimmer design.
The phone is available in four colors: Space Black, Cloud White, Light Gold, and Sky Blue, giving users a range of modern aesthetic choices. The display is said to be the best on any iPhone to date, offering ultra-bright OLED visuals and energy efficiency.Customers can trade in their old devices to reduce the cost of the new iPhone Air. Apple’s trade-in program offers up to $700 for recent models like the iPhone 16 Pro Max, and up to $100 for older models like the iPhone 11. Even older phones such as the iPhone 8 may qualify for smaller credits.
In addition to Apple’s trade-in deals, carriers are offering aggressive promotions. T-Mobile is providing up to $1,100 in savings with an eligible trade-in and qualifying plan. Verizon customers can save up to $1,000, while AT&T is offering savings up to $830. These deals are part of Apple’s broader strategy to make the iPhone Air more accessible while encouraging users to upgrade from older models. The iPhone Air was announced alongside the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro, as well as updated Apple Watches and AirPods. While the iPhone 17 line targets performance-focused users, the Air is being positioned as the go-to choice for those who value portability, design, and all-day power in a slimmer package.
With preorders now live and carrier deals in place, demand is expected to be high leading up to the iPhone Air’s September 19 release.
